NEW ASSISTANT CHIEF CONSTABLE FOR STAFFORDSHIRE
Julian Blazeby
Staffordshire Police Authority is pleased to announce the appointment of Julian Blazeby as Assistant Chief Constable.
Mr Blazeby was selected from a strong field of candidates following a rigorous selection process undertaken by the Police Authority, which included a session with a Community Panel made up of representatives from the joint Authority and Force Citizen's Panel.
He will be responsible for local policing and operational services across the county and Stoke-on-Trent.
The appointment was made to fill the vacancy left by ACC Marcus Beale’s move to West Midlands Police in June 2011.
Mr Blazeby (46) will join the force from Norfolk Constabulary where he was Temporary Assistant Chief Constable between June 2010 and January 2011. Before that he was head of the constabulary’s Protective Services as Detective Chief Superintendent.
More recently, Mr Blazeby worked in a joint leadership team with Norwich City Council to explore opportunities for collaborative working across the public sector.
He moved to Norfolk Constabulary in October 2005 after serving 21 years with Suffolk Constabulary. At Suffolk he carried out a variety of roles, including CID, covert operations and four-year secondment to the National Crime Squad.
Mr Blazeby is married with two children.
Speaking of his appointment, he said: "I am absolutely delighted to be appointed by the Police Authority and I look forward to working in Staffordshire with colleagues, partners and the community."
Chair of Staffordshire Police Authority David Pearsall said: "The Police Authority is delighted to appoint Julian Blazeby as the new Assistant Chief Constable with responsibility for local policing and operational services.
"Julian has established himself as a leader and will be an asset to the force and Staffordshire’s communities."
Chief Constable Mike Cunningham said: "I’m really pleased by today’s appointment. Julian has extensive experience in a variety of challenging leadership positions across two constabularies.
