Police Authority

The Police Authority is made up of the seventeen members of the Authority and meets five times per year. The Police Authority is the main decision-making body, ensuring that the Authority undertakes its statutory functions under the Police Act 1996 (as amended).

The Authority publishes, annually, a Policing Plan for the policing of its area and sets objectives for a three-year period, having regard to the Home Secretary’s Strategic Policing Priorities, local policing priorities and performance targets set out. It also sets the Budget of the Authority and sets precepts, together with monitoring the performance of the Force in carrying out the Policing Plan and its arrangements for co-operation with other police forces.

Meetings of the Authority are open to the public and the press.
