Custody Visiting and Volunteers
The Committee monitors the effective operation and development of the Authority's Independent Custody Visitors Scheme and submits recommendations on any proposed changes. It considers and selects individuals nominated as potential custody visitors to police stations to serve on Independent Custody Visitors Panels.
The Committee ensures the effectivesness of the provision of inductions, refresher and development training for Independent Custody Visitors (ICVs); meets with ICV representatives annually and considers the annual reports of the ICV Panel. It ensures oingoing effective liaison with individual ICV Panels and maintains an oversight and perspective of arrangements for custody visiting at regional and national levels.
The Committee has delegated authority in respect of its terms of reference, with its minutes being submitted to the Authority.
