Governance structure
Independent Advisory Group (IAG)
The Chair of the Authority and the Chair of the People Policy and Development Committee are the ex-officio members of the Independent Advisory Group and at its discretion the Police Authority appoints such other members as it considers appropriate. In addition, there is in the region of 16 Independent Invitees, whose term of invitation is reviewed biennially with the option to re-invite.
The IAG, when requested, provides: an independent source of advice to the Police Authority on its policies, strategies, procedures and the effective and efficient discharge of its functions and those of the Force; reviews relevant aspects of proposed strategies, policies and procedures; comments and advises on relevant outcomes on performance against objectives and targets.
The IAG is consulted for advice on such other issues or matters that the Police Authority considers appropriate from time to time and is a working group of Staffordshire Police Authority.
The IAG does not have decision-making powers but gives advice only, to which the Authority gives careful consideration. Advice provided by the Group is formally recorded in the minutes of the Group and the Police Authority. Members on the Group provide feedback to the Independent Invitees on the actions that follow from advice that has been provided.
